About
Each community’s needs and approach to climate action is different, and that’s why there are 24 different Climate Hubs which collectively cover every region of Scotland. These hubs are rooted in their local place, run by local experts and connected to community organisations and cross-sector partners.
What do the hubs do?
Each hub helps local groups by providing training, seed funding, collaboration opportunities and a platform for sharing knowledge to help them embed climate friendly practices within their work.
The hubs work to:
- Build awareness of the climate emergency and actions local groups can take
- Support groups to develop climate action projects
- Embed climate solutions into local plans
- Supporting groups to influence and shape local and national policies
- Ensure a joined-up approach to tackling climate change at a regional level
Where did the hubs start?
In the summer of 2021, the Scottish Government supported the creation of the first two pathfinder Climate Hubs, NESCAN Hub and the Highlands & Islands Climate Hub. Following the success of these two hubs in their communities to form connections and create action, the presence of Climate Hubs grew across Scotland. There are now 24 Climate Hubs in the national network, and every community is covered by one who can offer them support to take climate action.
Support for the hubs
The Scottish Government supports Climate Hubs to build on the success of the Climate Challenge Fund (CCF), which was delivered by Keep Scotland Beautiful and granted £110 million to over 1150 projects between 2002-2022. Climate Hubs have created additional opportunities by reaching new communities, encouraging shared learning and improving networking. The Scottish Government have committed to supporting the Climate Hubs with up to £6 million of funding in 2025-26. A breakdown of the Scottish Government’s support is available here.
