About

Lanarkshire Climate Action Hub is hosted by the Rural Development Trust, a Lanarkshire charitable organisation. We enable community-led climate action and build capacity in Lanarkshire and empower communities to drive change from the ground up.

We do this by:

  • Sharing information and advice on climate.
  • Hosting training, learning exchanges and events.
  • Providing funding and support.
  • Enabling groups to bring ideas to life through project development.
  • Connecting communities and groups across Lanarkshire.

We break climate into the themes of Energy, Food, Greenspaces, Travel and Waste to ensure climate action is accessible and relatable to everyone.

In a changing climate, our aim is to build resilient and thriving communities.

Areas We Serve

We support community groups and organisations across North Lanarkshire and South Lanarkshire. We have a team of Development Officers who specialise in Energy, Food, Greenspaces, Travel and Waste.

Current Projects

Every year we run a small grants programme supporting community groups and organisations to deliver climate action. In 2025 our funding supported communities to build adaptation plans, empowering young people to develop skills to share, repair and reduce waste, enabling groups to build and grow active travel communities, teaching children about food growing and sustainable and healthy eating and making climate action accessible to vulnerable communities with the help of creative practitioners.

We host an annual festival, Lanarkshire Climate Action Festival, over a fortnight in September, where we bring communities together to start climate conversations and raise interest in climate action. We provide a small grant to community groups and organisations to support them in hosting events. Events are organised under the themes of Energy, Circularity, Community Engagement, Food & Nature and Travel.

In partnership with local growing groups, we have set up and manage Lanarkshire Seed Savers Network. The project encourages seed-saving and adapts plants to the region’s growing conditions to ensure resilience against climate change, common pests and plant diseases. Seeds are available at local seed libraries, and we hope to expand the network to more locations in 2026.

The Hub offers an Energy Handholding Service to help community groups improve the energy efficiency of their buildings. The service helps groups to understand options, gather quotes, build capacity and support with finding suitable funding.

We also deliver training, learning exchanges and workshops on topics that our communities have expressed a need or interest for. This includes communications and marketing training, learning exchanges to community projects that have successfully installed renewables and in partnership with other organisations workshops on tree planting and composting.

On our website and social media accounts, we have lots of helpful resources and advice to support individuals and groups to take climate action.
