About

Local Energy Action Plan (LEAP) hosts the Renfrewshire Climate Action Hub (RenCAN Hub). RenCAN Hub runs activities under the following themed strands: nature restoration, circular economy, food and farming and education (RenCAN Learn).

RenCAN Hub is the facilitation and support organisation for Renfrewshire Climate Action Network (RenCAN), a regional network of people and community-led organisations that are acting or want to act to reduce and adapt to climate change in Renfrewshire. RenCAN exists to connect people and places, to share knowledge and skills, and to fund and develop projects.

Areas We Serve

Serving all communities across Renfrewshire through a place based, network approach, supported by delivery partners, Hub Development Officers, project coordination and themed strands including nature, food, circular economy and climate learning.

Current Projects

RenCAN Hub supports community-led climate action across Renfrewshire through partnership working, training/learning workshops, events and small grant funding.

Core Strands – Nature restoration and biodiversity. Working alongside local conservation partners NatureFix, Eadha Enterprises, Clyde Muirshiel Ranger services and community organisations & volunteers, we deliver a programme of tree planting, hedge creation, wildflower sowing and habitat improvement activities, engaging volunteers from diverse local groups.

Circular Economy – Supports repair, reuse and skills-sharing across Renfrewshire. In partnership with organisations such as ReMode, Sewing2gether All Nations, Creating A Sustainable Gryffe, Own Yer Bike & Kustom Kruizers, we deliver workshops on clothes upcycling, clothes swap, sewing, repair, reuse and bike maintenance. We support and encourage the growth, and creation of repair cafés, tool libraries and a wider “share and repair” culture, alongside developing a community directory of circular economy services.

Through our food, farming and growing strand, we work with partners such as Propagate Scotland and local growing groups to strengthen sustainable food systems. This includes support for community growing spaces, composting infrastructure, allotments, and practical skills workshops such as pruning and seasonal growing techniques.

RenCAN Learn Strand – RenCAN Hub delivers climate education and learning through our delivery partner, Sustain The Change – providing workshops and resources for individuals and community groups to build climate knowledge, skills and confidence, with a digital learning platform launching in January.

Climate Action Grants – To enable grassroots action we run a small grants programme, awarding funding to Renfrewshire community projects to deliver action for climate and nature in their local area. Further, we provide networking, peer support, signposting and partnership development for over 70 member organisations across Renfrewshire.

Photo Mapping – Our delivery partner Open Aye (Becky Duncan) is running a participatory photo project: “Photo Mapping Climate action in Renfrewshire” of up to 9 participatory photography workshops for RenCan. These will create a visual directory of 12 photo case studies of projects who are successfully running or pioneering approaches to climate action, loosely based around the intersecting themes of conservation, the circular economy and social justice. Bespoke sessions engage people around climate mitigation & adaptation initiatives across the region.
