ICAN has a number of projects to encourage sustainable practices and community climate action.
These mainly include:
Community Tracks – Community Tracks is a cycle and recycle project based in Greenock. Since 2016, Community Tracks have been servicing, maintaining, repairing Inverclyde’s bicycles. They have saved tonnes of bikes and bike parts from landfill by helping the local community to stand on their own two wheels, build confidence, enjoy physical activity and learn new skills.
The Pantry – The Pantry are zero waste shops based in Greenock and Port Glasgow. Each week it offers a variety of fruit and vegetables, tins and cans, snacks, frozen and chilled food, toiletries, and more. In 2023, it saved 162 tonnes of surplus food from landfill. The Pantry is open to Inverclyde residents only, regardless of financial and employment status, it is open to everyone.
Seed Funding – Our seed funding programme ‘Empowering Communities for Climate Action’, aims to support projects to deliver climate-focused activities on themes of sustainable travel, food justice, nature enhancement, and share and repair. We are particularly interested in projects that will benefit those most vulnerable to climate change.
Training – ICAN offers free climate training to the community, this includes Carbon Literacy Project Training, Climate Fresk training and more. We are always looking for more training opportunities to deliver to our members. Project Development – ICAN supports our members to make their climate-based project ideas a reality. This is through 1-1 project advice sessions, facilitating partnership working, and community engagement.
