If our community is a forest, Dundee Changemakers Hub is the mycelium network that connects everyone and helps them share information and resources to grow strong and resilient together. We provide opportunities to connect at our workshops and events, help seedling projects get started and established ones grow, help our community reach their climate goals, and encourage projects testing better ways of working through our pilot projects. Our pilot project for this year is Dundee Dots, an alternative currency for Dundee. Thirteen local organisations contribute a list of things they can provide such as workshops, room hire, food, or design advice.
These are valued in Dots, the project’s alternative currency. Dots aims to reframe how we see resources, skills, and relationships, and unlock the potential that already exists within our city. We are one of five Climate Action Hubs to receive funding from Foundation Scotland this year, which has been distributed between five network projects; GROW Dundee Network; Dundee Play Forum; Community Toolbox with Wellbeing Works; Nature Moves with Wildstrong, and Plateful Dundee.
We recently brought activist and author Rob Hopkins to Dundee for two events. A full day workshop exploring ‘How to Fall in Love with the Future’, and an evening ‘In Conversation with Rob Hopkins’ at Abertay University. We partner with local organisations to support community events, and host our own series of workshops and networking events – ‘Skill Share Series’ and ‘Nourishing Networks’, each hosted by inspiring local changemakers. We offer microgrants to local projects aimed at addressing climate and social justice issues, and host microgrant events – Dundee SOUPs – inspired by Detroit SOUP. Projects pitch their projects to a community audience who then vote for which projects they’d like to receive funding.
